Emory & Henry College

"Emory & Henry is a case study in the parable of the talents. It does more for its human material—and thus comparatively for society—than do the three most selective institutions in the same state of Virginia.... Emory & Henry doubles the talents of most of the kids it gets, and contributes to their moral development as well."

CHARACTER

  • At Emory & Henry, we believe in the work of each person's religious and cultural heritage, inasmuch as that heritage leads to service to the larger world. We also challenge all persons to confront historical and contemporary ideas and issues and to develop the ability to apply critical thought to all areas of human experience.
  • Founded in 1836, Emory & Henry is the oldest institution of higher education in southwest Virginia. The two men represent what we believe are the strongest foundations for successful lives: vital piety and civic virtue.
